This page relates to the program Import QIF files - BS419
Here we list a few known problems which may occur when importing data, and the solutions. A puzzle to us at the time, but
easily corrected, once the cause was identified.
The Import program is designed to trap any irregularities in your data, and stop the import with a message identified by an
error code. If the program reports an error in your data, check the following list for rectification instructions. Its an easy job for you to fix.
- Errcode TransCLS1
ErrMsg - CLASS Not found in QIFCLASSES
Errcode TransCLS1 If you get this message: Screenshot BS419S01-transCLS1-1 The
text is: Warning Error detected. An unknown CLASS was found in the Transaction
file Click the Show Errors button for more details
The Show Errors button will become visible if Bank Genie identifies this error in your data. Screenshot BS419S01-transCLS1-2
Click the Show Errors button The error log will show a table with 3
columns, Errcode, Errmsg and Errmsg2 : Screenshot BS419S01-transCLS1-3 The problem encountered by the program is shown in
the Errmsg column. Best explained by example: Referring to Screenshot BS419S01-transCLS1-3 - In this example the user has defined a Category with the description
Food/Groceries In a QIF file, a forward slash (/ ) has a special meaning - it signifies that the text
after the slash is the name of a class. The Bank Genie Import program correctly thinks this is a Class.
Thus, slashes embedded in Category names are not allowed in data
being imported.
The solution The solution for this example is to edit the Category description in the program where
data is being exported from (Quicken, MS Money, Moneydance etc). Locate and edit the name of the Category. Changing it to one word Food (or Groceries) will work. Export the QIF file again, and try the import to Bank Genie Pro again.
