Q: Why do I get a warning message from my Anti Virus program when I download my software
Some new customers have reported seeing the message as shown in this screenshot (or similar) as issued by their Norton/Symantec antivirus program when downloading the Bank Genie
software. A: What to do: Please choose the option to Run this program anyway.
If your Anti Virus program issues a dialog box which has the same type of warning but with different options, please choose to Allow the software to be downloaded or to be run, or otherwise Continue
.

We contacted Symantec when this message first occurred and managed to get both the Bank Genie
and Bank Genie Pro downloads whitelisted (i.e. cleared as a safe download by Symantec/Norton). This took a number of days.
It got worse! Our research led us to the conclude that this solution would not guarantee that the “dire
warning” message would never appear again since a)Users would have to ensure that their definitions
were up to date, to avail of the most recent whitelist and b) the fix would only apply to those with
Symantec/Norton anti virus software (we had a similar report from a user of another Anti Virus program) c) the whitelisting was only valid for that build release.
Since we make frequent updates to our software and since we would have to reapply each time we
made a change, we decided that the delays were unworkable and too big demanding on our resourses.
A single program update means that our software has to start all over again to build a reputation on that new release.
Norton appears to start from scratch with the new release and will display the embarrassing message that Fewer than 5 users in the Norton community have used this file.
The change could be due to an enhancement per a user request or even a simple cosmetic change. Life is tough!
